Small World Learning Academy believes the environment plays a major role in the success of an early childhood program. It should enhance the children’s interests in all development. We believe learning in an early childhood environment is done most successfully through stations that can be visited, explored, and revisited again and again. Our environment takes into consideration the social skills, communication skills, physical abilities or challenges, and learning styles of the children being served. The early years of a child’s life are busy. Small World Learning Academy believes learning happens all the time and is connected through all development. These include physical, social/emotional, cognitive and communication. Therefore, the goal of the program is to make this ongoing learning experience safe, positive, and fun, nurturing the whole child as we strive to guide them into the next stage of development with confidence in themselves and an excitement for continued learning.

Our Curriculum
Our early learning curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support children’s growth through engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences—building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
What Makes Our Program Special

Small World Learning Academy strongly believes and supports the need for physical activity each day.
When children participate in physical activity every day, multiple health benefits accrue. Regular physical activity builds healthy bones and muscles, improves muscular strength and endurance, reduces the risk for developing chronic disease risk factors, improves self-esteem, and reduces stress and anxiety. Beyond these known health effects, physical activity may also have beneficial influences on academic performance. In addition, cognitive skills and motor skills appear to develop through a dynamic interaction. Research has shown that physical movement can affect the brain’s physiology.
Infants will be given opportunities for physical activity, including supervised tummy time.
Toddler age children will participate a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous active play each day.
Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten children will participate a minimum of 90 minutes of moderate to vigorous active play each day.
School age children who are in attendance for a full day will participate a minimum of 90 minutes of moderate to vigorous active play each day. School age children who are only in attendance after-school will participate a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous active play each day.

Infants
6 weeks - 18 months
We focus on nurturing, relationship-based care, using responsive routines and sensory play to support development in key domains (social-emotional, cognitive, language, physical) through exploration and play, aligning with research on brain development for infants from birth to 18 months.

Toddlers
18 months - 24 months
We use play-based, responsive learning focused on building secure relationships, fostering independence through self-help and routine, and developing core skills like language, motor skills, and social-emotional growth, using hands-on exploration, sensory experiences, and small group activities within a nurturing, predictable environment to support individual discovery and readiness for kindergarten.

Twos
Our hands-on, play-based learning builds school readiness through routines, exploration, and social-emotional growth, focusing on activities like music, art, stories, and outdoor play, all within a nurturing environment that supports independence, creativity, and developing foundational skills for future learning
Key themes include supporting curiosity, facilitating social skills, fostering language, and developing motor skills through movement and self-care.
